August 1987
Moved to Melbourne, Florida and attended Florida Institute of Technology. Joined Lambda Chi Alpha, student senate, football, Army ROTC and crew team, plus 7 Aerospace Engineering classes... Well, the classes were really: Fundamentals of Aerospace Engineering, Calculus 1, Chemistry, Learning Strategies (easy), ROTC Leadership Labs (easy), Engineering Graphics (drafting, difficult based on the instructor I ended up with) and Fundamentals of Composition and Rhetoric (tough English class). My first quarter in college was insane (and the grades showed I did too much). I did learn more this quarter than any other in college.

Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster... Since everyone knew then that I was determined to be an astronaut, this was a very difficult day for me. Later, my physical vision disqualified me but I am still determined to make it to space sometime. I also found out in college that I really didn't care for Physics, etc. and knew that I would not excel in these areas. I decided then that I wanted to succeed in my career, which eventually led me to business-production & operations management.

6th Grade Pine Avenue Elementary - This year was a lot of fun, even though I had to adjust a bit to a different school (regardless, being a 6th grader rules in elementary school).

5th Grade Southeastern Elementary - One of my favorite teachers ever, Mr McMillan (sp?). For the first time that I could recall, a teacher focused on what I was good at and encouraged me to get even better. Math became fun and easier. I also made a solid friendship with Robert Chambers. We challenged each other to excel in Math (and he has been working for Microsoft for a long time). I believe Kevin Chivington also became a good friend at this time. The 5th grade (and a bit of the 4th, I suppose) became a turning point for me. My grades greatly improved and I started to realize that it actually mattered.

4th Grade Southeastern Elementary - Tried playing the trombone, but hated it. My music instructor, Paul Todd, would not let me stop playing and ended up flunking me in music (a lot of U grades, thank you very little).
